Q. Are the results really real? Or do you tweak them? Does advertising have any influence on what gets awarded?
A. The results are really real; in many cases, they're not what we might have chosen at all if we did editor’s picks. And, no, our advertising department holds no sway over the winners. Any and all businesses are welcome and able to purchase ad spaces in the nominating or voting period, and the public can still write in whatever business they deem ‘The Best of Alaska’ to move on to the voting period where the TOP-5 most nominated businesses in each category vie for Silver, Gold and Platinum places.
Q. Do people try to cheat? How do you prevent it?
A. Yes, they do. And we have our ways.
Q. Can people vote more than once?
A. Yes, you can vote once per week, per category.
Q. Why don't you have a category for ________ ?
A. We switch up categories every year, putting in new ones and dropping some old ones. Categories are determined based on both business and voter participation. If you want to make the case for a specific category for next year's ballot, drop an email to our events team at bestofalaska@adn.com.
Q. What are the plans for the upcoming Best of Alaska Showcase?
A: We have made the tough decision to not hold the Showcase this
January, which is when it is traditionally held. Instead, it is our hope and plan to celebrate both our 2020 and 2021 best of Alaska winners on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the Dena’ina Center. Until then, we will continue to follow the latest
guidance from the CDC and the Anchorage Health Department, and base our event decisions on what is best for the health and safety of our community.
